Swedish celebration days are extra festive times to visit TanumStrand. Easter and Midsummer are both celebrated with traditional food and fun activities for the whole family. In autumn, the seafood season kicks into high gear, with Oyster Day falling on September 2, 2017 and the Lobster Premiere on September 29.
Lobster Fishing trips are offered every weekend in October for those who want to be part of an adventure at sea. Swedish Christmas dinner is served every weekend from November 18 to December 16. On Christmas Eve the hotel is closed, but we open for New Year’s celebrations with a luxurious party menu on January 31.
Oyster Day and Lobster Premier
With the Skagerrak sea and salty winds just outside our door, it’s no surprise that we have a special affinity for the ocean’s pantry. Autumn’s seafood “premieres” are perhaps the most celebrated days in Bohuslän. Oyster Day, which falls on Saturday, September 2, 2017, is celebrated with a big party in Grebbestad. The Oyster Academy is headquartered here and festivities surrounding oyster shucking and tasting are offered from morning to night.
The Lobster Premiere in September is one of Bohuslän’s greatest highlights. On the first Monday after September 20, it’s lawful to lower the lobster nets for the big catch. On Friday, September 29, we celebrate with a seafood buffet feast and lobster on the menu in restaurant Latitude 58°. Book a table, it will be packed!
Christmas at TanumStrand
Take a trip to the shores of the Skagerrak. Breathe in the crisp, clear air of the archipelago then retreat to the pine-scented heat of the sauna.
In restaurant Latitude 58°, we enjoy a traditional Swedish Christmas buffet (“julbord”), with herring and schnapps for those interested. The buffet table overflows with all of Christmas’s traditional dishes, homemade and cooked with ingredients from the farms and sea of Bohuslän. Christmas dinner is served on weekends from November 17 through December 16, 2017.
On Easter we offer a classic program for the whole family. Fun activities with the Seaclub and delightful Easter dishes are paired with long-awaited spring sunshine. We light an Easter bonfire, walk along the coast and make the first spring outing to the beach. A visit to the SPA and fun moments together in the family pool can also be enjoyed.
An Easter buffet with traditional dishes is served on Easter Saturday April 15, 2017.
Those visiting us on Midsummer’s Eve, June 23, 2017, will be part of a genuine Swedish Midsummer celebration, with games and dancing around the maypole and strawberry cake on the dock. The restaurant serves a delicious buffet with herring, meatballs and all the traditional dishes that characterize Midsummer. The evening is rounded off with live music on the outdoor terrace.
On New Year’s Eve we celebrate with a champagne tasting on the shore and a New Year’s dip in the fresh salty sea for those who dare. Our sauna tent, the Siberian Banyan, spreads its warmth across the dock and provides a good way to prepare for a jump in the ocean. The SPA is also open, where you can take advantage of gorgeous swimming pools and saunas before the New Year celebrations in Latitude 58° begin. The evening offers a range of festivities with a sumptuous five course menu, sparkling fireworks and delightful musical entertainment. New Year’s luxury at the beach!
